I realize it’s still another day until the next episode of Lost. However, over the weekend a new theory hit me and I figured I’d throw it out for everyone to some feedback.
What if the alternate timeline we are watching in Lost, the one where the plane lands safely at LAX, is actually the real timeline?I haven’t completely worked through this theory but it seems to hold water.
This would explain why Mrs. Hawking, Widmore, Abbanon and the rest seem to know what is going to happen. These “Course Corrections” we heard about will take things in a certain direction.
The two timelines are mirrors or reflections or possibly even extensions of each other. They aren’t mutually exclusive though. This is why Jack couldn’t remember getting his appendix removed last week. However, his mother said he was 6 or 7 when it was done. That probably would have been around 1977 which was the year when Juliet removed his appendix on the island. He would have been 6 or 7 in 1977.
Remember, according to Faraday, “What happened, happened.” So, perhaps we can extend this to each timeline. If it happened in either of them, it happened. Of course, what does this do for Juliet? I haven’t figured this whole theory out entirely yet.
After going through the implosion of the Swan, Desmond is able to jump between each timeline. Don’t forget, Mrs. Hawking told him the island wasn’t done with him. Des also gave a pretty non-committal response when Penny asked him to promise he wouldn’t return to the island.
The “going home” Smokey Locke told Sawyer he wanted, isn’t about going home to his house, it’s about returning to the main timeline. He’s been stuck in this alternate timeline for a long time.
“The End” which Jacob talked about with his friend on the beach at the end of last season is when they all return to the other (correct) timeline.
Anyway, like I said, I just thought I’d throw that out. Let’s see how long this theory lasts. What does everyone think?
Oh, and while I’m typing, how about this for ‘the loophole’ which allowed Jacob to be killed:
Smokey (in the form of Christian Shepard) told Locke the island had to be moved knowing that he’d tell Ben who would do it himself. He probably rigged things to cause the wheel to stick…he also (as Smokey Locke) got Richard to tell him he had to move the wheel himself and that he’d have to die in order to bring everyone back. Ben is pretty predictable and he ended up on flight to Guam.
As Ben had turned the wheel and couldn’t come back but had been able to return anyway, he was exempt from whatever rule the island had and therefore, this was Smokey’s loophole which allowed him to manipulate Ben to kill Jacob. Plausible?
One last thing, can’t take credit for it as I read it online somewhere but:
“Why did Smoke monster cross the road? To get to the other Sayid.”
I’ll get my coat…..
