Each week I am more convinced that the Alternate Timeline, the one where Flight 815 lands is the real timeline. Well, the timeline which would have happened had Jacob not touched them. My theory is that in some way they’ll end up never crashing on the island.
This week we learn that James “Jim/Jimmy/Sawyer/LeFleur” Ford never wrote that letter to Anthony “Sawyer/Locke’s Father” Cooper because Jacob didn’t show up with the pencil at the funeral. So, he became a cop who can’t lie rather than a criminal. One thing we do know is that he doesn’t have a problem having ‘relations’ with women knowing all his co-workers are right outside listening to the entire encounter. But, it’s not like Polar Bear cages offer much privacy either. Also, the ‘con woman’ (did we ever get a name for her?) called him ‘dimples’. On the island, we’ve all enjoyed his nicknames for people.
Wasn’t Pierre Chang (Miles’ father) at the Swan Construction site when the bomb was supposed to have exploded? I’ve wondered for some time if the bomb really exploded and sent them to 2007 or whenever. I can understand how Ben, Roger, Miles, Charlotte and the others were on the sub at the time of the detonation. Last week we learned for certain that Ben and Roger were on an island with Dharma at some point. We also saw in the season premier that a barracks was built at some point and is now underwater somewhere in the middle of the Pacific. We assume that’s the same island. However, on THE island, Chang was at the construction site attempting to stop Radzinski’s drilling when we are lead to believe the bomb was detonated.
(“Assume some stuff, but never everything in this show.” — Yours truly, 2010)
Does LAPD Det. Miles have the ability to see how people die and know their last thoughts? If so, he’d be a darn good homicide detective. You have to think some kinda “After LOST” detective spin-off show with those two would be fun. They could be consulting Dr. Jack & Dr. Ethan each week. Hurley and attempts to steal his wealth could be worked in. They could consult with Dr. Ben as well….ok, maybe not.
Hey, Miles has a girlfriend. The guy on the island has been having issues in that department. Could Miles’ girlfriend be a cop? Do we know anyone else who’s been on the island who is a female LAPD officer? Well? Maybe. She wasn’t on the flight which landed so she wouldn’t have seen Sawyer. This version of Miles might be able to handle her…I doubt the other one could.
Oh yeah, it was a Sawyer episode. I suppose I should have something about him in here. Even without the letter he wrote and carried for 20+ years, he still had the pent-up emotions about the loss of his parents. He’s still able to charm the knickers (she’s English) off Charlotte but as soon as she discovers his secret “Sawyer” file. He then makes her do the “Walk of Shame” at 3AM. Maybe I’m just suspicious right now but when she opened the drawer and all she saw were jeans, don’t you think she would have then questioned her interpretation of his directions rather than digging around under the jeans? Eh…maybe it’s just me.
This version of Sawyer can’t lie about anything. When Miles, already suspicious about his weekend in Palm Springs, has the credit card report which shows transactions in Sydney, he has no decent response.
That night, while eating a frozen dinners and watching “Little House on the Prairie,” he seems to ‘get it’ (That “Pa” Ingalls and his philosophical words of wisdom can get through to them every time…they aren’t just for half-pint anymore) and tries to make up with Charlotte by bringing her a flower (and a 6-pack) which does nothing more than get the door shut in his face. Didn’t the “I’m sorry flower” thing work with Juliet? Perhaps if he had presented her with a LeFord…never mind.
I wonder how long the LA County DA will keep Charlie locked up for smuggling heroine? I would have thought the Driveshaft millions would be able to afford lawyers to make something happen much faster than Liam hounding anyone who will listen at the station’s front desk.
The next day he finally unloads his “Sawyer” addiction to Miles…but in the middle of the confession (potential intervention from Miles?) Kate interrupts things. Sawyer seems to remember her from the elevator ride they shared at LAX.
Over in the world where Jacob has touched everyone (that didn’t sound quite right) Locke needs Sawyer’s con-man expertise to obtain some intelligence. I assume this is part of the reason Smokey Locke decided to recruit him first.
After finding the plane, he finds dead people. I can’t believe I had forgotten there were more from the Agira flight left on the other island. Guess no one went back for them or they figured they’d just hang out in and around the plane even though there was a Dharma station complete with various zoological equipment nearby….or and that re-education room Karl was in.
Zoe seemed to just ask too many questions and the con man saw through it. However, his guard wasn’t completely up. Sawyer as a gun on him and says “LeFleur” and the rescue team show up. Sawyer has his gun on Zoe and she whistles and the rescue team show up. Whatever happened in either timeline, the name LeFleur seemed to stand out for Jimmy as well as for Sawyer.
Hidden in plain site are, a portable version of the sonic fence, we think, and a padlocked door on the sub. I wouldn’t have noticed the latter if Sawyer hadn’t pointed it out…..so it must be important.
I dunno, maybe it’s just me but this group with Widmore seems more like a boy scout troop when compared to Keamy’s gang.
I’m assuming Smokey Locke had a feeling that Sawyer would pull a double agent routine when he met with Widmore. Ya think Widmore is thinking the same? Either way, Sawyer only looks after one person, himself….and any willing ladies nearby.
Sawyer’s conversations with both of them seemed to go a bit too smoothly. Maybe it’s just me but Widmore seemed to be offering the chance for Sawyer to ask some important questions. Perhaps it was a test of some kind. After all, all Sawyer wants is to be off the island.
Boy was the Claire vs Kate cage match a disappointment. Not even close to being as fun as the Kate vs Juliet handcuffed mud match.
I kept waiting for Sayid to ask for some Doritos cuz he had the munchies.
I’m not sure what was stranger, Smokey Locke smacking Claire or him telling her the attack on Kate was “inappropriate.” It was almost like she was some pet.
We knew something wasn’t right with Claire but, the hold-hands with Kate one minute, put a knife to her throat the next and then apologize with a massive hug later, acts were worse than….well, I guess it would be normal for someone who has a doll fashioned from an animal skull.
Claire is told “The Others” took Aaron so she would have something to hold on to keep going. She needed someone to hate. Lemme see now, obviously, Sawyer and, well, Sawyer. Jack and his dad–or maybe, his drinking. Kate and her dad, or the Marshall, or perhaps, herself? Sayid hated himself or at least his actions. Hurley even had daddy issues. Yep, hate sure keeps us going. Not sure where it takes us though.
Smokey Locke also explained to Kate that he had mommy issues. But this was a long time ago. We know that Locke was born out of wedlock and grew up in an orphanage. However, I’m guessing he wasn’t talking about that.
What’s with the rabbits? We had Ben pretend to kill one to con Sawyer a couple of seasons ago. There was the one with the number who traveled through time. One of the first books we saw Sawyer read in Season 1 was Watership Down…it was on his dresser this week. It’s been a few years since I read the book but from what I recall, there are some relevance between the story in the book and the different groups on the island. Oh, and Kate was warming up some leftover rabbit when Sawyer got back from his trip.
Hey, the episode both started (almost) and ended with a “son of a bitch” from Sawyer.
Locke wasn’t too upset when Sawyer killed his father on the island. What’s gonna happen when finally finds Cooper in LA? I’m guessing someone will have to forgive someone.
Here’s a theory I got after this weeks episode. Sawyer was the one who ‘caught’ Kate. So, he’s the arresting officer, right? (I have no idea how these things work but hear me out.) He’ll need to talk (interrogate) to her. He’ll believe her story that she isn’t guilty and the two of them will find happiness with her after he helps get her off the hook? In the other timeline, she was guilty, Jack helped get her off the hook and they found happiness….for a little while. That would make Jack’s baby momma, Juliet, right?
Well, the Universe does have a way of course correcting, but maybe it doesn’t always find quite the right path.
Next week we are supposed to learn all about Richard. Will we get more answers than questions?
